Does the Design or Hosting effect my websites overall performance?
Short answer, BOTH! Both the design & hosting can dramatically affect a websites performance. Take automobiles for example. The outside “design” can be boxy or it could be sleek which improves aerodynamics. “Hosting” is more like the engine of a car. A more powerful engine will result in a faster car. So to truly have a great website, you need both sides to be of the highest quality and performance.
